Important Information

Clients remain responsible for reviewing and submitting their own government applications and for ensuring that information provided to the Government of Canada is accurate.

Canadian Roots does not communicate with IRCC as the client's representative or submit citizenship applications on a client's behalf.

Canadian Roots provides genealogical research, historical-record research, document retrieval assistance, and document organization services related to Canadian ancestry.

Canadian Roots is not a law firm and is not a licensed Canadian immigration or citizenship consultancy. We do not provide legal advice, represent clients before Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), or make legal determinations regarding Canadian citizenship.

Canadian citizenship determinations are made solely by the Government of Canada. Canadian Roots cannot guarantee that an individual will be recognized as a Canadian citizen, that an application will be approved, or that a particular decision will be made.

Canadian citizenship law changed significantly in December 2025 when Bill C-3 changed the first-generation limit on citizenship by descent, creating potential citizenship pathways for some people who were previously excluded.

Because of these changes and the volume of people seeking proof of citizenship, processing can take considerable time. Government processing times and procedures may change. Canadian Roots has no control over IRCC processing times, requests for additional information, policy changes, or final decisions.

For that reason, clients who wish to pursue their Canadian citizenship documentation may choose to begin the research and documentation process sooner rather than later.
